The DimeŠ
Distortion not subtle, not pretty.
When Dimebag
Darrell of Pantera first exploded on the scene, he ushered in a
new era of tone and attitude. When it comes to guitar, Dime
doesn t need a warm or pretty sound. He can t be bothered with
vintage this or boutique that. He wants a heavy, aggressive,
razor-sharp tone that can slice through a loud band and a louder
crowd. It s a tone that rages with distortion but remains tight
and focused enough to keep up with lightening-fast rhythm lines
and face-melting solos.
Finally there s a pedal that can deliver all that: the The DimeŠ
Distortion from MXR. Crank the gain, boost the lows and highs,
and hit the Scoop switch for a rhythm tone that will annihilate.
Dial the mids back in and mow down the competition with a lead
sound that can penetrate steel. If it still hasn t gotten heavy
enough for you, stick the Dime in front of a distorted amp and
experience sustain and sonic mayhem that s so over the top it
should come with a warning label.

Aug 5,
2006 - Was this dime distortion? Because I never saw
Dime use it live or in any video. I bought this being a
big Dime fan and I am running it through a 5150 II head
as well as a Randall Dual Pre Amp Head. I can't even
really hear it at all! It's like Mush and it really only
makes my tone worse than the sound of the amp. I ran it
through a Line 6 Pod XT and I got way better results in
that. But through my amps it is like Mush. So overall I
gave it a 1. The only good thing about it is that maybe
some day it will be a sought after item because of it's
name and Dime's face on it but other than that it didn't
do anything. I am running my heads on krank cabinets and
Marshall cabinets. I also use a Digitech Wham and a Dime
Crybaby waw that I really like. But this Dime MXR
Distortion is a bore. It really had a interesting tone
through my Line 6 POD Pro XT though. I was very
surprised that it didn't make any noise in my amps!

Jul 14,
2006 - A couple of days ago I got this pedal and the
sound was awesome and it is very strong. I play through
2 marshall stacks and my guitars of choice is the fbd,
cfh, and washburn dime stealth. If you own one of these
with the bill lawrence or dime buckers, you must buy
this pedal.

Jul 6,
2006 - I bought this pedal simply because I'm one of
the biggest dime fans you can find... but I found that
this pedal isn't true to the real dime tone...it simply
doesn't compare to dimes real distortion... I play a
randall rh300g3 head through two peavey 4x12
cabinets...and if turned up past a quarter of the way on
both master and level it gives horrible feedback and
hum.... if your looking for the dimebag tone then this
isn't where you should look.

Jun 25,
2006 - I got this pedal as a gift. After Dime passed
away I have been trying to get my hands on all of his
gear to keep his sound and music alive. And this pedal
gets the job done. I own 3 strats and Randy Rhoads V and
a handfull of other guitars and they sound great through
this pedal. But when I plug in the Dean ML nothing comes
closer to unleashing Dimes squeals and divebombs we all
love.

Jun 3,
2006 - Speaking strictly distortion, it sounds
nearly identical to the DS-7 Distortion by Ibanez (Which
is 1/3 the cost). However, the output is huge. None of
the pedals I own produce as much power as this one does.
The 7 for quality is because this thing is pretty much
unbreakable, but it's more of a Classic Rock Distortion
than a metal distortion. If you want a good
metal-sounding pedal, go with either the SM-7 Ibanez
Smash Box or the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone.
